With UWC Cricket Club currently busy with off-season preparations, and the pre-season looming on the horizon, some of the players decided to share their prospects for the upcoming season
Luke Philander, All Rounder
Personally, I want to grow as a cricketer by learning and engaging with experienced players. I want to play 1st team cricket, and win at least 1 title irrespective of the format (league and competitions). Also, I personally feel that I need to focus on improving my leadership capabilities.
I also want the club to grow as a unit, both mentally and spiritually to enforce and create a ‘never say die’ environment & culture. I personally feel that we need to shift our focus and align to achieve a common goal, and put our talents to use and win trophies.
Most importantly, I want the club to be successful and be consistent in what we do
Rowan Abdol, Opening Bowler
I am looking forward to make a success out of the season with the team and also individually, by taking wicket on a regular basis and be consistent and try to add valuable runs with the bat where I can.
I was in a final last season with a good team and that made me hungry for more
Zubayr Humza, Top order Batsman
Club – I’d like to add as much value as I can and produce match winning performances to help the club achieve the heights and accomplishments that they we are capable of. Given the structures and quality of the players we should be able to contest for the league title and my goal is to do my best in helping the team achieve that.
Provincial – last season I had a difficult season so the break has done me the world of good on releasing all the negativity. I’ve got a strong and positive mind-set and I’m looking forward to the fresh start. My prospects for the season would be to be as consistent as possible and improve on all aspects of my game.
I’d like to contribute to the team victories and to continue improving. I’m continuously learning and hope to put what I’ve learnt, from a tough and trying previous season, and put those things into performances to produce big performances in the upcoming season.
I want to earn the opportunity to play as many games as possible for cobras, and more importantly to jump on any opportunity given to me and produce big scores.
Thaakier Snyders, Top order Batsman
This season I’d like to work hard, and make my mark. I didn’t have the greatest past season so there’s room for improvement. I hope to work hard and improve my game overall, not just batting but in all aspects that I have to offer.
Aviwe Mgijima, All Rounder
Provincial – I see the upcoming season as a big opportunity to further enhance my reputation and performances for the Cape Cobras side. I would like to convert a lot more of my scores & produce a lot more match winning innings. The biggest goals however is to win a trophy or two with the Cobras
Club – I love playing for UWC and whenever there’s an opportunity to play this season, I will make the most of it. UWC is a great club to play for and the guys are amazing. So hopefully when the opportunity arises, I can help the club win games and ultimately trophies.
Godwill Mamhiyo, Top order BatsmanI would just like to enjoy y cricket a bit more. Solely focus on my batting, and also give more to the club. If I out that in place and get it in order, things should go well for me and those around me. This should be the season where we as a club pull together, and with the talent that we have we should either finish in the top 4 or win the respective leagues
